A dessert well worth working for
G’Morning Lovelies!
I hope you had a fab weekend. Here’s a quick re-cap of mine:
- I wrote my Fitness Instructor Specialist exam and attempted to make a tart crust with Nature’s Path cereal - it looked very pretty but still needs some tweaking.
- I reminisced about a recent trip to the grocery store which was rather interesting, and a little awkward…
- I went to the farmer’s market, made a flippin fantastic dinner for one of my besties, and gave a little Father’s Day shout-out to my dad.
In addition to these highlights, my weekend concluded with an absolutely delicious dessert, which I will talk about in a second. Lunch was a Dempsters Ancient Grains wrap smeared with Edamame Hummus and stuffed full of alfalfa sprouts, cherry tomatos, chicken breast, orange bell peppers and a little corn.
After having a lovely Father’s Day chat with my dad, I chugged away at the readings for my courses this week. They’re still not finished but managed to make a good dent. After all of that work, I felt it would be appropriate to make fabulous dinner. The recipe hasn’t been posted yet as it is a contender for this Wednesday’s Recipe of the Week, but this is a little peek at what it looked like:
Now, what was the dessert? It involved pineapple and one of the delicious peaches I got at the market this weekend. Since my Top 10 Grilling Tips post last week, I’ve been dying to make a little barbecued fruit. I halved a peach and cut up 2 thick slices of pineapple. After sprinkling them with a little cinnamon and all spice, they cooked away on the grill for about 2-3 mins on each side.
When the fruit was finished, I chopped it into smaller pieces and layered in a glass with some vanilla yogurt.
And ohhhh my was it ever good. Initially I was a little concerned because the peach wasn’t very ripe yet, but letting it caramelize on the ‘cue made it super sweet. The only thing I regretted was not making more!
Today
This morning’s spin class was hot. Really, really hot. The gym hasn’t quite sorted out the air conditioning situation after yesterday’s power cut… it was sort of what I imagine hot yoga to be like, but on a bike. Speaking of yoga, GoodLife is opening up another location next month that will be offering hot yoga. I’m tempted to buy a couple of sessions and test it out. I was a little late getting into the whole yoga craze but everyone seems to rave about it.
This morning I’m off to class to give a group presentation, then my baseball team has a game. Over the weekend, I started working on making the Workouts page a little easier to navigate. There are some new workouts posted on the Core and Cardio pages, and I’m hoping to get to the others during the week.
Alrighty, I’m off to class! Stay tuned tomorrow for my Top 10 FREE Food & Fitness Apps. Have a great day!
Questions for today:
- Do you do hot yoga? Do you have any advice for me before I sign myself up?
- Do you have any favourite apps? Feel free to share and I’ll add them to the list for tomorrow.

I just saw edamame hummus yesterday at TJ’s! I almost grabbed it, but picked up GUACAMOLE HUMMUS instead! It’s like my two favorite dips – in one! I’m totally stoked about it!!
I’ve never tried hot yoga, but I’ve always wanted to. It’s on my list of things to do, that’s for sure. I’d definitely sign up if I were you.
As far as apps go, a few of my favorites: Locavore, Women’s Health and Nike Women’s
I had a look at Locavore this morning – I wish it worked here because it sounds amazing!
I’ve never been big on guacamole (I’m a little anti-avocado.. I just can’t acquire a taste for it!) but I love hummus so maybe that would be a happy medium! Enjoy!
