And more importantly, happy first day of holidays for many of you! I’m one of the lucky ones that has today off, which is a very good thing because I’ve still got some last minute Italy prep to do!! Don’t worry, you won’t be without posts next week. I’m not sure how much internet access I’ll have in Milan but you will most definitely have some fantastic guest bloggers here to keep you company until I get back. Let’s not jump too far ahead though, because we’ve still got a Fit Bit Friday to discuss!
Work It Out
I tested this routine this morning and I can assure you it’ll leave you nice and sweaty! Lately I’ve been designing workouts that require very little equipment in case I get the urge to work up a sweat in Italy, and this is one of my favourites so far. All you’ll need is a skipping rope and yourself!
The No-Machine Cardio Pyramid Workout
Craving a solid cardio workout when the weather is crappy and gym access just isn’t an option? Well this one’s for you! You’ll complete 5 rounds of 5 exercises, all of which are designed to be performed as fast as you can do them while still maintaining good form. In the first round, you’ll start with 10 seconds of skipping, then move into 10 reps of each of the remaining exercises. After a short rest, you’ll do the same again, increasing the skipping time to 20s and number of reps to 20. You’ll peak in round 3 with 30s skipping and 30 reps of the other 4 moves (total killer!!), then work your way back down for rounds 4 and 5.
Be sure to keep moving during your rests between rounds, as well as after you complete them all. Walk around to bring your heart rate back down, then finish with a good stretch. With my 1-minute rest breaks included (a total of 4), this entire thing took me 17 minutes, or a total working time of 13 mins. I plan to keep timing myself to see if I can cut that time down with practice, but the 30 burpees slow me right down!!
Turn It Up
Alright, this isn’t exactly a workout tune but I couldn’t resist a festive jam this week. Since there are only 2 sleeps till Christmas, today’s feature is Santa Claus is Coming To Town by Mariah Carey. Maybe not the best beat to get your sweat on to, but it’s definitely catchy enough if you’re doing some
last minute Christmas shopping mall cardio this weekend!!
And last but not least…
