Happy Friday, Friends!

And happy first day of June too! Did you say’ white rabbits’ this morning before doing anything else? I didn’t because I always forget. In case you haven’t a clue what I’m talking about, there’s a British superstition that if you say ‘white rabbits’ or ‘rabbit rabbit rabbit’, or some combination of those, you’ll have good luck for the month. One of my teachers at school in Bahrain told me that, and I remember it almost every month. The problem is, it’s always after I’ve been chatting with people, so it’s usually too late.  Sigh.

Anyways! Enough about rabbits. It’s time for another Fit Bit Friday!

Work It Out

I feel like my butt has been glued to a bike seat for the past 2 weeks due to my foot injury. The workouts I’ve been doing are nice and easy on the feet, but they’re by no means easy on the rest of me! In fact, the one I’m sharing with you today gets me sweating more than many of my treadmill sessions. The upright stationary bike might not look like the most hardcore piece of cardio equipment, but if you do this workout, I’m sure you’ll be thinking otherwise!

The Hot Hot HIIT Workout

This routine starts off in a rather cruisey fashion with a 5 minute warmup.  You’ll build uphill for 10 minutes, hold a hard steady climb for 5, and then the real fun starts. You’ve got 2 sets of high intensity intervals – one set of 5 at a work to rest ratio of 1 min on/1 min off, and one set of tabata intervals, or 8 rounds of 20s on/10s off. They’re meant to be intense, and I’ve included a resistance, RPM, and RPE guide to indicate how intense the workload should be. Of course, alter it to fit your own physical needs and drink water throughout to prevent dehydration. At the end there’s a nice 5 minute cool down to flush out your legs and bring your heart rate back down to a normal level.

Oh, and it’s a good idea to have a towel nearby for this one. If you really give ‘er on those intervals, I promise you’ll be sweating buckets!

Turn It Up

This week’s tune comes from Maroon 5. I used to be obsessed with back when their first album, Songs About Jane, was out. This Love, Harder to Breathe, Sunday Morning, and She Will Be Loved were my faves, and when Moves Like Jagger came out last year, I was a little less than impressed. However, the boys have redeemed themselves in my mind with Payphone, featuring Wiz Khalifa.
