A look back at 23 {Giveaway}
Good morning!
Thank you so so much for all of the happy birthday wishes yesterday! Your comments, tweets, Facebook messages, and everything else made it an amazing day. Last night I went out for dinner with some of my girlfriends to Turtle Jack’s. If you’ve ever been there, you’ll know that it’s certainly not a vegan, vegetarian, raw, or organic restaurant like many of the ones I tend to frequent, but there was salmon on the menu and that’s what I was after!
It was a great day filled with lots of surprises. I need to take a moment to tell you just how awesome my roommate, Angie, and her boyfriend Jevin are. Each weekend (when I tend to do all my cooking, and when Jevin comes to visit), they witness an enormous mess of photography props, place mats, wooden surfaces, and random plates on our dining room table. They also listen to be babble on about what I cooked, how great (or gross) it tasted, and how the photos turned out. For the last couple of months, I’ve been talking about how I want to get a piece of drywall and put chalkboard paint on it. That way, I can use it as a background or photography surface, and label the ingredients with chalk. When I came home from Vancouver on Monday to my empty house, weary and loathing the thought of unpacking, I found this in my room:
How freaking amazing is THAT?!?!?!?! I’m so, so excited to start using it. Now I just need to find a free weekend to spend in the kitchen!
Looking back, twenty three was quite the year. Here are some of the highlights:
I met Tosca Reno at Can Fit Pro 2011 (and that just might happen again this weekend at the 2012 conference!)
I bought my domain, eat-spin-run-repeat.com, and transferred my blog over from eatspinrunrepeat.wordpress.com.
I went to San Francisco for a work conference, and when that was over, I shopped my heart out, went to Alcatraz, and visited the Full House house.
While in San Francisco, I also ate my first oyster at the Ferry Building markets.
I fell in love withe some fancy shmancy gourmet olive oils and vinegars at Dana Shortt Gourmet, and just can’t look at average grocery store balsamic the same way any more.
I set some new goals for 2012.
I visited Italy for the first time with my dad and sister at Christmas.
I gave up gum chewing and drastically reduced my intake of artificial sweeteners. It’s 7 months later and I’m pleased to report I’m still going strong!
I wrote about my personal 10 commandments that I live by, inspired by Gretchen Ruben’s Happiness Project.
I celebrated my 2nd blog birthday and self-published my first book/e-book, Fresh Bites.
I splurged and bought a Vitamix (one of the best investments I’ve made yet!)
I attended Oprah’s Life Class in Toronto with Ange, and 8,500 other Oprah fans.
I went to Melbourne, Australia to be a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding. (Recaps can be found here, here, here, here and here.)
I launched my health coaching business.
And finally, as you saw earlier this week, I went to Vancouver for the Lululemon Sea Wheeze Half Marathon – Recaps are here and here.
Looking back at all these photos and posts makes me realize that I have a pretty awesome life. Since I believe that a good mood can be made even better when it’s shared with someone else, I’ve got a GIVEAWAY for you!!!

a favourite bday memory: my 16th when my dad took me to get my beginner’s driver’s license!
i’d love to try the granola!!
Happyyy belated birthday Angela! Looks like you’ve had such an amazing year, hope that this one is even better and that you keep shining the way you do!
Here’s to another great year! You’ve already done so much at such a young age! Egad!
Yay for Canadian giveaways… my best birthday memory was my mom forcing me to host a party for my 30th’s birthday… not happy at the time but looking back it was nice.
I’m in the US so I can’t win so boo
I will say my favorite birthday was my 23rd also. I had just gotten married (Aug 22) and my husband and I were born two days apart (he Aug 26 and me Aug 28) and we were on our honeymoon at the time (this was back in 1998). We were both in the Air Force and I was on assignment in Alaska, he was in North Carolina so spending the two weeks together was so nice. Happy belated birthday by the way. What a fun year you’ve had
On a side note, I’m saving for the Vitamix (maybe a little help from my birthday in two weeks) and I was wondering what model you purchased. I’m trying to decide which model to go with and how much more I need to save!!!
Oh, I love this year in review. My birthday’s coming up soon and I’m already reviewing my year too. I tweeted about your giveaway!

Ah what a year! I hope that for 24, I can look back on this year with as much happiness. Also LOVE that you visited the Full House house! So cool. And congratulations on your many professional successes this year!
My favorite birthday memory isn’t specific, but when I was in middle and high school, my older sister and I would decorate each other’s room the night before, while we were sleeping. So she would come in at 1 or 2 am, put up signs and streamers and posters, so when I’d wake up, my room would be decorated for my birthday! It was always fun

My favourite birthday memory is of my parents taking me and my friends out for Chinese food (I’d choose it every year as it was my favourite) and the restaurant would be filled with a dozen giggling girls – it was so much fun!
Wow! What an amazing year for you!
My favorite birthday memory is actually of my husband’s birthday. We had just started dating and I spent all day putting together an amazing picnic…but then it rained all night so we spread a blanket on the living room floor instead
:] Good luck to all the Canadian readers! Your roommate and her boyfriend were so sweet to make that sign for you!! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Happy birthday one more time!
My favorite birthday memory was my 30th birthday. I spent it in Utah with my sister and two cousins hiking, doing yoga, getting massages and generally relaxing. It was a great way to ring in a new decade!

Happy Belated Birthday girl! So glad you had a good day — and I must say wowza on a wonderful year that you’ve had – here’s wishing you another year filled with lots of wonderful new adventures!
Birthdays were always a big deal for my family but I’d have to say my fave was my 30th when my husband surprised me with a trip to Nashville (one of the best places on earth in my humble opinion
)! He also surprised me with a bunch of friends and family who also made the trek down for a birthday weekend. I loved every second of it!

I can’t enter the giveaway, but wanted to wish you a belated happy birthday. You are wise beyond your years! I love your blog and the wealth of information you have.
Happy birthday! Your past year looks to have been wonderful, so cheers to an even more awesome 24th!!
My best birthday was last year, my 25th. Without going into too much back story, my mom absolutely floored me with her gift. I’ve completed an undergrad and a Master’s degree, so like most people, I took out a student loan to pay for university expenses. I was in repayment and had a plan set out to pay off the loan in under 10 years. My mom, who single-handedly raised and provided for my sister and I our whole lives, presented me with a card and a cheque on my 25th birthday – she paid off my ENTIRE student loan!!!!!! I bawled and wheezed and cried and hugged the living crap out of her. Best birthday ever.
Awe! What an awesome year for you! Heres to the next one that will be just as successful and fulfilling!:)
Sounds like you had a great year! My favourite birthday memory was the year I turned eight. I had a birthday party at a local pizza place with a bunch of my friends and we got to make our own personal pizzas in the kitchen. I was also able to spend my 19th birthday in Switzerland, so that was a pretty cool birthday, as well!
Favorite birthday moment can’t be narrowed down to just one so I’ll go for the day I was born.. Happy to be here!
Happy (belated) birthday, Angela! My favourite birthday memory was when I had just returned from England and I spent it surrounded by family and friends.

my fave birthday memory would be my 23rd, when I was in Vietnam. I was doing a tour with about 21 other people. I chose a pink theme, so everyone dressed up or accessorized and we went to a bar called “the loo pub” – which literally had toilets inside as chairs! When that bar closed we took a motorcycle taxi to another bar, and the Vietnamese driver sang happy birthday to me as we drove! A night to remember for sure. (Happy to say I have lost about 45 lbs since that birthday!)
My favorite b-day was my most recent. I turned 40, threw myself an awesome party and my best friends from high school drove 6hours to attend and surprise me! It made me feel incredibly special and grateful to have such true friends.
Happy belated birthday! I hope this year is just as extraordinary! My favorite birthday memory was my most recent birthday, when my wonderful boyfriend surprised me with my dream triathlon bike!
My favorite birthday memory is when I was a kid and since I have a summer b-day my friends would come over to spend the night. We’d have a variety of sodas (I know, bad, wouldn’t do that now!) and setup a tent in the backyard telling scary stories and whatnot. Simpler times…..
