Hi friends!
Welcome to the last Fitness Friday of the month, and of the year! Before we get to that, have you had a good holiday? Are you feeling refreshed? Perhaps in need of a weekend to recover from the festivities? ? I’m back to work today after a nice little break, and my mum who was visiting is en route back to Ontario. We did all sorts of fun things, from checking out gingerbread houses to riding gondolas up mountains, and it was lovely… cold, but lovely.
Having watched my annual dose of Christmas movies and listened to more than enough Christmas music, I’m feeling very ready to get into a fresh new year. This weekend will be all about finishing up my own little 2017 goal setting process (speaking of which, if you haven’t downloaded my FREE Gorgeous Guide to Goal Conquering 2017 yet, make sure you get on it!) but before all that, I’ve got a little sweat session for you to try with new year countdowns in mind. Let’s get to it.
Work It Out
As the name of this one implies, it’s a countdown from 16 (for 2016) to 1, and you’ll go from start to finish with no (or minimal) rest. I love this format because you can swap in whatever moves you like depending on the equipment you have, and when done right, the final sets from around 5 reps down to 1 are always a challenge.
The New Year’s Countdown Workout
Prepare to get very familiar with jump squats, weighted curtsy lunges, push-ups, burpees and mountain climbers. You’ll start off with 16 of each of these moves, progressing quickly from one to the next. After 16 of each, immediately do 15, then 14, 13, 12 etc, all the way down to 1. Focus on form first, but increase the challenge by jumping higher on the squat jumps and burpees, and increasing weight (dumbells held at your sides) for the curtsy lunges.
