4 Better-Than-Hummus Veggie Dips

Not long ago I shared 3 chickpea free hummus recipes, and although I didn’t anticipate it at the time, it turns out you guys were totally into them! I received a bunch of emails and Instagram messages asking for more ideas, so this is me delivering for you.

Why would you want to make bean-free hummus and dips?

I’ll start by saying I have absolutely nothing against chickpeas, other beans and legumes. I actually really love them, and my motivation for making the original 3 varieties was quite simply because I ran out of time to boil chickpeas before a party.

While veggie dips don’t quite have the same protein content as a bean-based dip, there are plenty of reasons to love them:

  1. Veggie-based dips can have the same texture and be just as flavourful as regular hummus, and can also provide a much wider array of vitamins and minerals. (The brighter the colours, the better!)
  2. The caloric and carbohydrate content of veggie-based dips tends to be lower than bean-based hummus, which may be helpful if you tend to get carried away when there’s a bowl of hummus and pita chips in front of you!
  3. They can be enjoyed by people who follow dietary lifestyles where beans and legumes are no-go’s, such as paleo and Whole 30.
  4. Veggie dips can also be enjoyed by people who typically experience digestive issues when eating beans and legumes. Often this can be reduced by soaking before boiling, but that takes time you may not have.
