Hello friends! As you read this, it’s quite likely that I’m in the air somewhere between Vancouver and LA. Interestingly, it’s not just for a quick weekend visit this time.

You’re probably thinking, “what the heck is she talking about and where did this come from?!” You’d be right, because I have yet to mention this on the blog, other than in my very vague intention for May to tackle a great big (somewhat scary) goal. And tackle it, I did!

Last week on Instagram I made a pretty major announcement about jumping on an amazing job opportunity that I was presented with in Los Angeles. Over the past two months, it’s the centre of my attention and energy. As it turns out, cross-border moves are a pretty big deal by the time you factor in things like visas, banking, tax, what to do with your car, shipping, and a whole bunch of other moving logistics I never thought I’d learn so much about. There’s not much I haven’t asked the almighty Google over the past month!

There will definitely be a more lengthy post in the future about my reasons behind the move, what’s been going on in my head over the past 6 months, and all that good self reflection stuff. But because I haven’t quite had the time to sit still, let alone sit still and truly let myself calm down now that the hardest work is done, I wanted to share my 3 intentions for June in the meantime. As you probably anticipated, they have a lot to do with this new adventure.

Find an apartment.

Let’s start with the basics, shall we? The last couple of weeks have been a pretty steady schedule of work during the day, packing at night, and crawling into bed WAY past my bedtime. I have to say, the feeling of seeing all my boxes loaded up and driven away in a truck on Saturday was absolutely lovely!

My worldly possessions are currently en route and while I wait, my first priority is to attend the apartment tours I scheduled before I left Vancouver. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that the ones I want are still available mid-month, and if that’s the case, I’ll move myself in before work starts next Monday. (Don’t worry – if it doesn’t, there will still be a roof over my head. I’ve got an incredibly gracious friend with a very comfy couch.)

Get settled in my new ‘hood.

By that I mean figure out directions to the places I need to know most, finish a few of the obligatory government-related tasks like getting an SSN, get a US cell phone plan (so sad to part with my 604 number!) and start to make things feel like home. I’m so grateful for very generous friends in the area who have already offered to help out with “anything I need”, and I fully intend to reciprocate by cooking many dinners.. or taking them out to dinner. Let’s be real here – LA has phenomenal food. Hello Erewhon and Cafe Gratitude, goodbye paycheque.

Remember that I don’t have to do it all in a day.

Ambition is a great thing, but the rational part of my brain also recognizes that I’ve just come off a hard run of finishing up my last job, packing up my apartment, learning the ins and outs of a cross-border move, saying goodbyes, and a bajillion other things that certainly took their toll on my energy. Even though part of me would love to work like an Energizer bunny all day long and check all the things off my to do list, I know that’ll probably be a recipe for burnout – and NOT the way I want to start a new job! With this in mind, I intend to set up some fun sweat dates and lunch dates, spend some time at the beach, go for walks and get my downward dog on. Oh, and sleep. LOTS and LOTS of sleep.

Right, that should do it for now. In between unpacking and apartment hunting breaks, I’d LOVE to read about what you’re up to this month. What’s one of your intentions for June, or a goal you’re working towards? It doesn’t matter if it’s big or small, I want to hear!
