Hey guys!

Can you believe it’s the last Friday in June already? Madness. This weekend I’ll be spending as much time outside as possible, and that includes meeting with a new-to-me group of runners tomorrow. One of our amazing local running stores, Runner’s Choice, recently started an ultrarunning trail group and I figured it would be a great thing to do as part of my training for The North Face Endurance Challenge. Don’t worry – I don’t see any ultra distance races in my near future. I do however, see lots of trail running so I’m looking forward to learning more of our nearby trails during these meetups. Work It Out

One of my goals for this month was to make time for more upper body strength training. I’ll provide an update on how that’s been going in my June goal check in, but for now, I’ve got one of the routines I did last week to share. All you need is a resistance band, so it’s perfect if you’re going this at home or traveling.

The Summer Arm Sculpting Workout

Complete this circuit 3-4x through, resting for 1-2 minutes at the end of each round. You can make the exercises harder by using a band with more resistance, or by shortening it up. If you’ve got time, do a quick cardio warm-up before you start. A lap around the block or a track, skipping, and cycling are all great non-gym options.

Turn It Up

Looking back at my workout playlists over the past couple of months, there seems to be a trend towards house genre-esque music. I’ve been leaving my iPod at home for outdoor runs, but when I’m on the treadmill, one tune that’s been on almost every playlist is Changes by Faul & Wad Ad vs Pnau. Yeah, I have no idea what the correct pronunciation of all that is either. But the lyrics in the song (of which there are few) are easy to remember and the steady driving beat seems to help me hit a nice, rhythmic stride. Not a runner? Don’t worry – it’s good for days when you’re just chilling out around the house too.

  • Friends, grab your tissues. Not long ago, my good friend Christina had the opportunity to be part of Vega‘s #FuelYourBetter campaign. They supported her through her trip to Vancouver to run the Vancouver BMO Marathon, but she was in for a LOT more than expected. Check out the surprise in this awesome video. It makes me tear up every time!
