Hi! I’m Angela, a Holistic Wellness Coach and Culinary Nutrition Expert living in Los Angeles, California. I love food, sunshine, holistic wellness and personal development. If you’re into these things too, then you’re in the right place.
I’m so excited that you’ve decided to stop by my little corner of the internet, and while you’re here, my hope is that I can inspire you to cook something tasty, get sweaty or set yourself a goal and create a plan to crush it.
You’ll soon find out that I have a thing for vegetables, smoothies, sweaty pursuits of all kinds and Ryan Gosling ‘hey girl’ memes. I’m self-taught in the kitchen and my favourite dishes are those starring vibrant, super fresh ingredients. From avocadoes to zucchini, there aren’t many fruits and vegetables that I don’t like.
The years before the blog
I was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and spent my teenage years growing up on a small island in the Middle East called Bahrain. I attended a British International school, met loads of fabulous friends, and had some amazing once-in-a-lifetime experiences. At the time I was involved in a ton of activities – soccer, basketball, running, golf, swimming, hiking – I loved it all.
Unfortunately, all of this physical activity wasn’t enough to keep up with the way I was eating. Weight piled on and eventually I hit a point where I was extremely unhappy and insecure. I decided to take control of the situation and started a weight loss journey that, from start to finish, lasted 2 years. In the process, I learned how to live a healthier lifestyle, taught myself how to cook, and developed a huge interest in plant-based nutrition. I lost 70lbs by eating clean, whole foods and staying active. These things continue to be central aspects of my life today.
In 2006 I moved back to Canada to do my undergrad degree in Business Administration at Wilfrid Laurier University. I fell head over heels in love with running, joined my university’s varsity cross country team and started racing half and full-distance marathons.
The beginning of Eat Spin Run Repeat
In September of 2008 I became a certified group cycling instructor and had the pleasure of teaching several classes per week at my gym. Just for fun, I’d create a new healthy recipe each week, print it out on small cards and give out copies to anyone in my class who wanted them. Everyone seemed to love it, but after a while, this got a little expensive for my student budget. I looked for alternatives and decided to start a blog, assuming nobody outside of my class members would want to read it.
Eventually I realized that more people than just those in my spin class were reading my posts. I was having fun sharing my kitchen creations, workouts and random life happenings, so I figured I’d continue a little longer. Lo and behold, over 8 years later, I’m still here!
What life looks like today
In March of 2015, one of my biggest goals to date – moving to Vancouver, BC – came to life. It was a plan that had been in the works for 4 years and when the opportunity arose, it was a “well, duh” sort of decision. I packed my bags, headed west to the land of mountains, Luon, stand-up paddle boarding and flannel shirts, and never looked back.
After spending some time working at Hootsuite, I moved along to lululemon. With the lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon having been the annual event that kept bringing me out to Vancouver summer after summer, it was truly amazing and somewhat surreal to be on the other side of it all. My gig as a Marketing Manager had me creating, laughing, sweating and savasana-ing next to hundreds of remarkably talented teammates, and I loved it all.
Then, most recently in June 2018, I made another big move – this time, south of the border and further down the west coast to Los Angeles, California. I now spend my days working in Digital Marketing alongside a team of rockstars at an amazing, fast-growing, mission-driven company. It’s an opportunity I couldn’t be more grateful for, and when I’m not in the office, exploring LA’s wellness scene makes me feel like a kid in a (gluten free, organic, non-GMO) candy shop. On the side, I’ve continued to pursue my nutrition, fitness and entrepreneurial passions. I’ve been a Health Coach since 2012, and became a certified Culinary Nutrition expert in December 2016.
By sharing adventures in the kitchen and my personal experiences, my hope with this blog is to inspire you to live an active and fulfilling life, fuelled by delicious, plant-based foods. You’ll find hundreds of recipes and workouts, as well as goal setting tips and strategies to turn big dreams into reality.
